The names of Aldershot & Farnborough, Aldershot & District and Alder Valley have been synonymous with the history of buses in west Surrey and Hampshire for 86 years.
The early beginnings of the Alder Valley bus company are traced back to the railway company running out of London to the south – the LSWR. They operated services in the area from 1904, and after 1906 a new company, based on Aldershot, gradually expanded until the Aldershot & District Traction Company was formed and absorbed these early operations. Eventually, Aldershot & District itself became part of the Alder Valley bus company.
This book, by well-known local authority on buses, Peter Holmes, represents the full history of this fascinating subject and includes over 240 rare and important photographs and documents within the extensive text.
